Brief History
Like many of the buildings on Leeming Street, this was built in 1901 to a design by Vallance & Westwick for Marchant & Sons. Marchant & Sons was a tailoring service, one of whose suits, made in 1938, is in the collection of the V&A Museum in London.
The Subway sandwich shop is a popular American chain which specialises in ‘submarine’ sandwiches (so named because of their shape).
Condition
The building is in good condition but the windows are not original as the upper floors have U.P.V.C. Its features are of a stone ashlar facade with stone dentil to the eaves.
Suggested Works
Explore the evidence for the original shop front and reinstate and also reinstate one-over-one timber sash windows to first and second floors.
