Elephants Parade through Market Place

I remember elephants parading through the Market Place when Billy Smart’s Circus would visit Mansfield in the 60s. It was a sight to see!

We’d collect tea packets from Brooke Bond-D or Typhoo for ‘children’s day’ at the circus which was a show only for us kids. The tea packets would be our entry payment. It was a promotional event but we weren’t bothered about that, we just couldn’t wait to get in and see the show! We were given Brooke Bond D or Typhoo goodie bags with crayons and stickers and a sticker book. I remember going with my cousins. We thought it was bloody brilliant!
