9-11 Market Place

Everything for the petrol head

In the early 1900s, steel windows were mass-produced in rolling mills. There were over 100 different profiles to choose from.

Brief History

9-11 Market Place was built in the early 20th century.

Current Condition

The three-storey building has metal window frames and a terracotta front on the first and second floors separated by a decorated cast-iron band. The shopfront at street level is 20th-century. A building of its time, now in a deteriorating condition with windows in need of repair, flaking paint and areas of rust showing to the metal band. Some terracotta tiles are cracked. The shopfront and signage detract considerably from the quality of the building and the Market Place.

Suggested Works

Strip paint, prime and paint five bays of metal windows and moulded intermediate panels. Install new shopfront, fascia etc. with a recessed central section. Fascia to extend over infilled sections each side.

Current Tenant/Owner

Vacant tenancy.
